What does the flow switch do?
A flow switch, like all switches, is a device designed to make and break an electric current in a circuit. In an industrial system, a flow switch is essential in monitoring and controlling the flow rate of process media – such as steam, liquids, and gases.
Are all flow switches the same?
Flow switches are categorized either by the flowing media or by the measurement type. This means that the types can be combined, such as volumetric liquid flow switch. Gas flow switches are for media such as air and steam. They are commonly used in HVAC applications.
What does a chiller flow switch do?
The flow switch detects whether there is any flow in the piping and opens or closes an electrical contact. It is normally used in heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, water treatment, additive pumping and process systems in general.
What is the difference between a flow switch and a flow meter?
Flow meters simply monitor flow rates and the user has to check the flow rate themselves, as and when rather than at a predetermined set point, to detect if there are any issues. Whereas flow switches detect the presence of the flow, at a predetermined set point, alert the user, and perform a designated action.
Where is flow switch installed on chiller?
Inside Use. Some applications have the flow switch located inside the building in the plant room with the control cable extending out to the chiller controls. Another configuration allows for the flow switch to trip out the building controls and so dropping out the run signal to the chiller.
Where do you put a flow switch?
The flow switch should be located in a horizontal section of pipe where there is a straight horizontal run of at least 5 pipe diameters on each side of the flo w switch. The flow switch may be installed in a vertical pipe if the flow is in the upward direction.
Can you clean a flow switch?
To clean the flow switch, remove it from the water line and remove NUT “A” (see diagram below). A light spring sits on the inside of the nut and a magnetic plunger sits inside the spring. Remove these components and clean any debris that may be caught in them. Clean the bore of the switch using a small brush or cloth.
What is a V6 flotect flow switch?
Surprisingly compact, the Series V6 Flotect Flow Switch is engineered to specifically monitor liquid, gas, or air flows. Operation is simple and dependable with no mechanical linkage as the flow switch is magnetically actuated.
What kind of flow switch is the series v6epb B-d-1-b-at flotect®?
Series V6EPB-B-D-1-B-AT Flotect® Mini-Size Flow Switch, brass body, DPDT, 1/2″ brass tee, with ATEX approval. Why should a customer be discouraged from buying a V6 without a tee and installing it in his own tees?
Why choose flotect flow instruments?
Flotect has been providing good quality flow instrumentation at a low cost for many years. This page offers a quick overview of our products to assist you in finding the right flow switch, flow transmitter, level switch and/or level transmitter for your needs.
How does the operation of a flow switch work?
Operation is simple and dependable with no mechanical linkage as the flow switch is magnetically actuated. The lower body holds the flow vane and one magnet, which controls the switch actuating magnet in the separate upper housing. In most applications the switch is normally off with the pipeline flow forcing the vane against the vane spring.
