Can Dioralyte be used for sickness?
Any child that is sick after most drinks may be offered a special drink called Dioralyte™. This replaces sugars, salts and fluids lost. Dioralyte™ is a powder mixed with the correct amount of water or squash (directions are on the packet). Your child may need encouragement to drink it.

These solutions can be absorbed even when your child has large amounts of diarrhea or is vomiting. Oral rehydration solutions can be used to: keep children well hydrated when they have significant amounts of diarrhea. replace lost fluids when children show signs of mild dehydration.
What does Dioralyte help with?
Dioralyte Relief works by replacing the water and salts lost from your body when you have diarrhoea. It helps the watery stools return to normal. It contains pre-cooked rice powder and salts (these are sodium citrate, sodium chloride and potassium chloride).
How quickly does Dioralyte work?
Oral rehydration salts should start working quickly and dehydration usually gets better within 3 to 4 hours.
Is Dioralyte OK for babies?
Dioralyte Relief is suitable for adults and children over 3 months. If your child is aged between 3 months and 1 year, you should seek medical advice before using Dioralyte Relief.
Is Dioralyte suitable for babies?
Each sachet should always be dissolved in 200ml water. Dioralyte Relief should not be administered to infants under 3 months and for those aged 3 months to 1 year under medical advice. If diarrhoea persists unremittingly for longer than 36 hours the patient should be reassessed by the physician.

How do I get my baby to drink Dioralyte?
Show them how to use an oral syringe themselves – get them to practice drawing up water and pushing it out at any stage just for amusement! Practice makes perfect! Then when they need Dioralyte give them a cup with approx 50ml of the reconstituted mixture in it and hand them the oral syringe.
Can you put Dioralyte in baby milk?
For bottle fed babies milk feeds should be reintroduced after a few hours of water or dioralyte. If this is not tolerated, then continue with juice / dioralyte, and retry milk after 4-6 hours.
