Yes, there will be midges. Worse in overgrown, boggy, sheltered areas. The main beaches in the area usually have enough of a breeze to keep then from being too harassing. Use Avon Skin So Soft or a branded midge repellent (everyone has their favourite) and long sleeves/trousers and you should be fine!

Gairloch is a village of a mere thousand people, and although it does have a few amenities – a school, a few small shops, a bank, and a handful of hotels and inns – a trip to the nearest cinema or the shopping mall involved a seventy-mile journey, much of it along sheep-infested single-track roads.

Re: Best Munro near Gairloch Beinn Airigh Charr is a favorite of mine and, as Kinley indicates, gives a fantastic view into Fisherfield. There’s also the Flowerdale corbetts (Baosbheinn and Beinn an Eoin) close by,and Beinn Dearg and Fuar Tholl are not too far away either.
