The Battle of the Books competition is free to participants. One set of books also is provided free to each team.

High School Battle of the Books is an annual competition among teams consisting of 9th through 12th grade students. Students read 15 books and then compete against one another. High School teams compete at local and regional levels.

Battle of the Books is a book-related competition for students in grades 3-8. Students are quizzed about books that they have read from the designated Battle of the Books reading list. Teams are sponsored by schools or public libraries, and will compete in either the Elementary or Middle School Divisions.

The only cost is an annual membership fee. We require that each school or group using our questions have a current America’s Battle of the Books association member. An association member is typically a librarian, teacher, or designated parent. All of our questions are free, as well as most of our resources.

Students read books from our book list and then compete with their peers in a Family-Feud or Wiz-Kids style of competition that is conducted and organized by local schools or local public library system. Practice Have readers write practice questions about the books they have read, then quiz each other. Divide your team and have mock battles.

About Battle of the Books No one receives a salary or profits from the service provided through America’s Battle of the Books. We exist solely to promote the enjoyment of reading and to strengthen the curriculum goals in America’s educational environment.
How many Books do you read in battle of the Books?

Teams of students will read 5 books chosen by Mrs. Husak and then answer 30 questions about the books at the competition which will be held sometime during the second week of March- March 10th 11th or 12th in the Boyce Cafeteria. The competition is during school.
What type of questions are asked in battle of the Books?
The questions asked have factual, objective answers so that the judges can clearly determine if responses are correct or incorrect. Teams will not be asked “why” questions. Teams will not be asked about the theme or themes of a book.
